10/19 Update Letter from our Superintendent

Santa Rosa City Schools will be Closed Oct. 16 - 20

A message from our Superintendent Diann Kitamura,

After careful consideration and a discussion with Board President Jenni Klose, we have decided we must keep our schools closed next week, Oct. 16 - 20. There are many factors that must be met in order to reopen schools, and at this point, we do not believe the current conditions allow those factors to be met. Those factors are as follows:

  1. Containment of the fires.

  2. Power on at every site.

  3. Safety of the facilities, including the clearing of smoke damage.

  4. Appropriate air quality inside and outside of school.

  5. Availability of teachers and support staff to operate the schools.

  6. Safe routes to and from school sites.

We will all get through this difficult time, together.

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR THE SRCS COMMUNITY:

Frequently Asked Questions regarding SRCS has been posted. srcs.link/srcstogether

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR THE SRCS COMMUNITY: The Santa Rosa City Schools Board of Education met at Montgomery High School Wednesday Night. As of Oct. 11, 2017:

-Please do not worry about school, and things like report cards or assignments. Keeping our families and community safe is the most important thing right now.

-Elsie Allen High and Cook Middle schools continue to serve as shelters. There are hot meals and health assistance. We are a SAFE HAVEN school district; please tell families that, no matter their immigration status or other circumstances, they are safe in these shelters.

-Our data and technology managers have backed up our data and have all student transcripts. Seniors who are applying to colleges will be able to have that information.

-Students who are displaced from their homes (whether in shelters, hotels, friend’s houses) are designated as homeless by the state, and they have the right to register at any school, even in other parts of California, without paperwork such as transcripts or proof of residency.

-We are supporting nearby school districts and they are supporting us. We will all get through this together.
Please check the Santa Rosa City Schools website or your school’s website for further updates. Follow us @SRCSchools on Facebook and Twitter. #SRCStogether
