About me

Welcome to my page on the Slater website! My name is Sandi Martin and I have been a teacher at Slater Middle School since the year 2000! Before that, I spent 17 years working in Pacifica, Ca. as an elementary and middle school educator. I am celebrating my 37th year as a teacher and love my job! I am also the Activities Director for the school, so am often busy planning and supervising the various endeavors and activities of our school.

I am married, with two kids, and three granddaughters! When I am not working on school projects, you can find me playing with my six year old granddaughter, and my twin three year old grandbabies, reading, creating computer generated projects, and shopping! Born and raised in San Francisco, I often visit my extended family there! There is nowhere else I'd rather teach than Slater Middle School. The faculty and students are a big part of my family.

LEADERSHIP CLASSES

Students in the leadership classes act as the HEARTBEAT of our school in many ways. These enthusiastic and dedicated STUDENT LEADERS work all year long tirelessly to provide the rest of the student population with fun-filled, enriching activities that support school spirit, and the ability to get involved, as they try to create a safe, respected environment among their peers. They also lead the school service and community service projects, operate a student store and Spartan Wear area, run dances and rallies, and make countless posters, banners and advertisements. If you want to see a hard working student, follow around a leadership student!

Multi-Media Productions Class

Students in my Multi-Media Productions Class will participate and learn in a variety of ways.  Not only will they be exposed to teacher directed activities, they will also work as mentors to each other, and sometimes teach the instructor a thing or two!  They will be involved in creating weekly live video bulletins, commercials, short films, and produce the school YEARBOOK! They will act as reporters, interviewers, editors, photographers, filmmakers, and other creative, innovative leaders! They will also have opportunities to be live on screen as well as behind the scenes.

English Support

Students in my English Support classes will work to strengthen their skills in reading and writing, as well as listening and speaking. Through a variety of approaches that correlate with the varied learning styles of the students, we will work with short stories, novels, articles, computer generated materials and common experiences to enhance and enrich the learning experience. Students should choose their own AR books based on their interests to read for 30 minutes a day outside of class.
