Periods 1, 2 and 3

Welcome to Advanced English 8

In advanced English, students will read relevant non-fiction and rich literature, write narratives, articles, essays, poetry, and persuasive pieces, discuss literature and current and past events, perform literature and original pieces, and study the nuts and bolts of the English language to excel as readers and writers.  Advanced English students are expected to turn in ALL of  their assignments and to be independent workers and readers.

What's Happening in Advanced English 8?

Currently, we are reading, discussing, and working with the novel The House of the Scorpion. Students are really stepping up and having excellent discussions on the setting, characters and conflicts in the novel.

In addition, we are beginning the study of imagery in students' writing.  Soon students will begin sharing their writing in their Literature and Writing Groups.

Finally, we have been working with Greek and Latin roots and how to unlock the meaning of words using this important tool.

It's been a real joy to work with such creative and fun students.  Things are going well in advanced English!

Have You Learned About Hoopla?

Hoopla is a great app which allows you to check out digital books and audio books for free from Sonoma County Library.  I use it continually.  It is super easy to use. If you haven't done so already, you should give it a try.  I think you'll love it, and it's great for students.
